Long weekend!!

It's quite cool and blustery here. I haven't been out yet, but I imagine the lake is extremely choppy and rolling - just the way I like it. That's my favourite kind of weather to walk along the lake shore. It's been drizzling off and on all day. Sabrina might get to wear her new rain coat. She has the black one with the houndstooth lining. (Their text says "herringbone" but that pattern is actually houndstooth.)

The weather has been pleasantly cool all week. Last night we had a potluck farewell/get-together for my manager who is moving to another park. The weather was good - it did cloud up, but didn't rain until into the night. We took Sabby out for a walk much later than we usually do and ran into her boyfriend, the Afghan Hound. He's just one year old and sometimes gets intimidated by her, I think. She just wants to play with him. They walk so nicely together. We invited them back to our place to let the dogs run in the back yard. The Afghan was a little unsure; Sabrina raced around, play-bowed and barked at him - a lot! but he was unsure what she wanted him to do. She'd run around the yard, stop in front of him, play bow, then run off, looking back over her shoulder. When he didn't race after her, she'd stop, try again. We went in the house (damn mosquitoes are back!) and he was reluctant to come in. We stepped outside a few minutes later and he began racing around the yard like a fool. As soon as Sabby came out to run with him, he'd stop. She was so disappointed. We'll keep trying - he and his owner should be here for another month or so and hopefully he'll play with her.

So I had an appointment Thursday night to get my hair coloured. I didn't ask for a cut as I thought I might let it get a little longer and see what happens, much like I did last summer and ended up with this mess. However, I am questioning that decision - I like my hair short; then seeing that Ande shaved her head and then Wendy did the same ... I'm not sure.

Anyway, the colour - it was quite blonde (lots of highlights) the last time I had it done. That was fun, for summer. But I wanted to get back to my natural darker colour. My (natural) colour is a mousy light brown, but when the sun hits it, it looks auburn. I had stayed away from colouring my hair for a long time because there were a few incidents where it turned orange due to the colourist's underestimating how much red it pulls. My current hair person does a fantastic job - if I go with light blonde highlights, they're light blonde, not orange or yellow. But I digress. I decided to go with quite a dark brown and just a few highlights in the front. And no cut. It looked good in the shop, but yesterday when I was getting ready for work, I glanced in the mirror and saw a lot of ... red!!! I don't know if I dislike it, it's just not quite what I had envisioned.

Sabrina is too lazy to look pretty to help dress up the photos, so we did it her way:

Excuse the lack of makeup - it's Day One of a three day weekend. I have no serious intentions of doing anything other than the most basic and necessary chores around the house, laundry, reading, dvd watching and of course knitting. I took some Lorna's Laces out of stash to start a pirates toque. Charcoal background and rainbow coloured skulls!

Pretty hair! I likey very much!

Ooh, that'll be a cool toque.

Maybe it's the light, but if you're seeing red, is it an auburn red? 'Cuz it looks good to me.

Did you ever see the dog intelligence rankings? Border collies were something like number one, greyhounds were pretty low (like #65 or something, maybe I'm thinking of whippets) but Afghans were dead last. Sounds like this little boy is being true to his breed--I mean, how much more OBVIOUS can Sabrina make what she wants? It reminds me of an elementary school friend who told me that hair was dead brain cells, so you could tell the really stupid people by their very long hair.

I like the hair colour. At least you haven't had the experience of your hair turning green from two dye jobs, back to back (done by moi at home).
I'm still laughing about the previous comments on Afghans.
Hope you are enjoying your long weekend.

"Their text says 'herringbone' but that pattern is actually houndstooth."

Wow, you think they'd want to play up the HOUNDstooth pattern for a dog jacket.

Love, love the hair!
