As a stock trader, you can either go long or short while trading securities. In layman terms, going long means purchasing a stock at a certain price and holding on to it till its value appreciates and then earning profit by selling it at a higher price.
Short trading is slightly complicated as compared to long trading since the trader does not buy a stock in this strategy but borrows it. After borrowing a stock, the trader sells it at a certain price and then waits for the price to fall further before again buying back the same stock and retuning it to the owner.
