what became of my nicely-made bed?!

I swear it was all pulled up, tucked in and pillows plumped.

Note the squeaky ball tucked under her armpit for safe-keeping.

She appears content, so that's all that matters!
Actual! Knitting! Content!!

The Regia 6--ply 2 x 2 scarf. Almost at the end of the second 50 g skein. I'm thinking a person could use a 150 g ball of 6-ply sock yarn and have enough for a great scarf - maybe a little wider than the 30 stitches and as long as you wanted. I really like how the 2 x 2 ribbing will be very cooshy when wrapping it around one's neck.

I will have to get a daylight pic of this - I couldn't get the yarn to show up in its true cinnamony/redwoody goodness. I've only just begun Starsky. While I was googling for Starsky knitters, I found Dave's blog. I know Dave from his Basketcase Socks pattern which is an awesome sock! And from Dave's blog I found the Starsky KAL group for reference in case I run into any problems; see other people's mods, etc. Cool.
In other online amblings, I found the tree sweater. Yeah, so I'm late to the party. [See reference above to just now starting to knit Starsky.] !!! I love it!
I noticed also Lisa and the pups are blogging again. Yay! There's been knitting and crocheting and kayaking and poochy smiles ... welcome back!
It was a cold, blustery rainy day here. After supper I took Sabrina out for a walk and she got to wear her new rain coat and it fits and works perfectly. Crowds of people stopped us and complimented her on it. Well, okay. ONE person did. Heh.
One more day of work (ugh) then the long weekend. Can't wait for 4 p.m. tomorrow. But for now, I knit.

Sabrina LURVES her new warthog! Busy morning doing chores, etc. but lazed the rest of the day away. I made an awesome spaghetti supper, chocolate cake, etc. Yum.
I have been working on my 2x2 rib scarf; I am almost done the second (50 g) skein of 6-ply and the scarf is quite long. I haven't measured it other than to wrap it around my neck several times. Once I'm done this skein I'll check and see how long it is and how much longer I want to make it. I am quite pleased with the narrow width - exactly what I had envisioned.
I also ripped out the lingering wrap-cardi. I worked on it a bit yesterday and it just wasn't doing anything for me. The yarn is fantastic, but the pattern - meh. I'll let it season in the stash for a while and see what else I can come up with. In the mean time, I pulled out the yarn I bought for Starsky and am going to swatch that tonight and get started on that.

Avast, me mateys!!Arrgghh, the pirate hat, she be finished!
I finished it last night and tried to take a couple of shots of me modeling it, but it was late, I was cranky. I tried again today after work.
Unfortunately, after a particular crappy day at work I could manage neither my trademark smile, nor Cap'n Jack's pirate sneer.
 "Your hat's on crooked."
Now for some macro fun (with the "new" camera!):
And in the life is tough category:
We went out for a nice long walk after supper, so I feel better about my shitty day. I think I might get my jammies on and go knit on the long-neglected wrap cardi.
During my break this afternoon, I was looking through the latest Ram Wools catalogue and they have such great stuff in there. They had some Garnstudio yarn and accompanying patterns and as I was reading the text, it says these patterns could be downloaded at Garnstudio's website. Here is the English page. If you mouse-over patterns, you can see the Drops archive where there's TONS of good stuff. I particularly liked the Shawl Collar Jacket and the Vivaldi Special Bolero from Book 91. [You can tell what book they're from by the pattern number in Ram's catalogue #55G9123 is Garnstudio Book 91, pattern 23.] Free stuff is good!

crazy weekI left on Monday and I got back late last night. So I only have today, really, as my weekend. Yeah, boo hoo, poor me! Heh.
I took this photo specifically with Sandy in mind. This was Tuesday morning's sunrise out my hotel window.
Here is the same view later on in the evening:
I put some miles on - meetings until noon on Thursday, then the big fella and Sabrina met me in the city and we traveled on to Edmonton, via Lloydminster overnight. It was the Princess's first time in a hotel room. She did okay - she was quite concerned though whenever she heard the door in the hallway, so that kept us all awake a bit during the night. But she did really well. This photo has lots going on - the big fella is using my girly leopard print reading glasses (and is secure in his masculinity!), Sabby is testing out her bed for the night. Hey, we had to pay an extra $25 for her, so damn right she was sleeping on the bed! She arranged her blankie and faux fur pad just so.
We went to Edmonton to take the big fella's mother to the Glenn Miller concert. It was as fantastic as it was when we went two years ago. There's nothing like a live performance. We had really good seats - perched up one level from the stage and close enough to see every band member's features and facial expressions and to hear the tapping of the band leader's heel when he counted into the next number.
It's nice to get dressed up and go out!
Sabrina got to have a sleep-over with three other greyhounds. Chinook Winds offers a "grey-sitting" service for your hound if you can't take her with you. We thought she would be more comfortable staying with some of "her people", so were lucky enough to make arrangements for her to stay in a home with three other greyhounds. We dropped her off early Friday afternoon and picked her back up late Saturday morning. When we first got there, the three other dogs were put outside (muzzles on, everyone!) and we brought Sabby out. There was a male and two other girls. The male was quite persistent about checking Sabby out, so she finally growled at him, chest-butted him and put him in line. They were best of pals after that. We had no worries leaving her there. She didn't eat much, but we didn't think she would. It was very heart-warming to come up to the door and be met by a herd of greys, Sabby happily in the middle of them. That has cemented in my mind the definite need to get a second dog for our pack. [The big fella continues to resist, but I'm more determined!]
Anyway, we drove back yesterday (and brought along the big fella's son for a visit). I got to ride in the back seat with Sabby. She loves the car - and settles in nicely. Mazda apparently engineered the Mazda 6 Sport specifically for her comfort:
And there's always more room in the living room for another squeaky toy!
Well, I have a ton of things to do today to get ready for the week. Oh, and hardly any knitting while I was away - bummer!

arrrgghh, that's more like it!Flaming "we call them pirates" hat:
(why yes, I have made off with the camera with the better macro capabilities!)
This was the progress as of lunchtime today. I'll have to set it aside now - I'm away for work until Saturday and I am going to take my socks along to work on. So I thought the end of two skull repeats was a good place to stop.
Greyhounds are really smart dogs - all appearances to the contrary.
Sabrina doing what she does best.
I've been busy finishing up laundry and packing my bags for the week. I'm ending up my business meetings by having the big fella and Sabrina meet me when I'm done, then we're heading onto Edmonton to attend this concert which we attended two years ago. It's a fantastic evening out. I've got my little black dress all ready to go!

Look!! knitting photos!!As promised, here are the current WIPs:
This is the Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport in #146, Flames. I LOVE it! I decided to do the Pirates (redux) hat lining in the flame yarn, mainly just to see how long the colour repeats were and if this yarn would make the skulls more legible on the charcoal background. I think it's going to work!
The simple 2x2 ribbed scarf. This is Regia Crazy Color 6-ply sock yarn, colour #5259. I love it!
The Meilenweit socks ... they've been squashed in the bottom of my knitting basket for a little bit. Great colours, though!
The wrap cardigan, part deux. I didn't get much past the cast on and a few increasing rounds before my attention strayed to other projects. I need to go through my knitting basket and straighten it up - maybe then I'll rotate through my projects a little more evenly.
I should give a nod to the fantastic new camera I bought the big fella (and which arrived today). I noticed a disturbing trend with Nikon that they're phasing out the good ol' trusty Coolpix of the XX00 variation (i.e. 3200, 4800, 7600 etc.) and replacing them with lesser models (i.e. L1, P1, etc.) with fewer features (and yeah, they're cheaper now, too). One thing that I dislike with my Coolpix P1 is that the macro sucks - the flash doesn't "throttle down" so the flash washes out whatever detail you're trying to zoom in on. These were all taken with the "new" Coolpix 7600 and its fabulous macro capability. Huh. I might just switch cameras with him and he can have the 8 megapixel P1 with the big 2.5"LCD screen and I'll use the 7 megapixel 7600 with the fab macro. Also, on the P1 the flash is much weaker than the older Coolpix models, so if I don't specifically do an on-camera exposure compensation, the photos all come out dark. Anyway. I searched all my favourite online camera sources and was unable to get my hands on any of the Coolpix models from 5 through 7 megapixels, but then a chance glance on Henrys.com used department, I found this one for only $245. It looks brand new and works perfectly. Yay!

and it was such a good idea!I have four projects on the go - I had a bout of startitis on the weekend. The wrap cardigan has sat for more than a few days in its second go-round. I have worked a bit on the big fella's socks, but not much since mid last week. I started a ribbed scarf, just 2x2 rib, narrow, 3.5 mm needles using some 6-ply sock yarn elann had a few weeks ago. It's a self-patterning sock yarn, not just a self-striping. After I worked four or five inches, I could see that the grey/white fair isle sections were not what I had envisioned for the scarf, so I ripped it out, found some Regia Crazy 6-ply and have started that over again. I have about six inches done. And then I started a "We Call Them Pirates" hat using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport in charcoal black for the background and rainbow variegated for the skulls, etc. (You may remember I made one last winter in red/orange here.) Also check out Hello Yarn's free patterns page.
I can make out the skulls, but if you didn't necessarily know what they were, they're hard to distinguish. I took a couple of sample polls of my work colleagues (and Ande did the same with the West Coast crowd) and it was almost unanimous that the rainbow makes it hard to see the skulls.
But the colours were so pretty!
Anyway, I ripped it out and have just started over again using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport in the "flame" colourway which is longer repeats of red, orange and dark brick colour, so it should look better and the skulls should stand out.
If you google "we call them pirates" + yarn you'll get a bunch of hits with all sorts of different colours of the pirates hat. Awesome!
As long as you're comfortable, Princess!
On the weekend, Sabrina "helped" with changing the sheets again.
Obviously that lump is on the big fella's side of the bed!
And one last pic, taken without a flash so it's blurry as hell, but at least you get a better idea of "the hair colour":
I do have other knitting photos to share, but that will have to be for another post. I've been going out with the big fella and Sabrina for their early a.m. walks and now she wakes me up any time between 5 and 6 a.m. to get going - this morning it was 05:30 hrs so I have to get to bed earlier!

Long weekend!!It's quite cool and blustery here. I haven't been out yet, but I imagine the lake is extremely choppy and rolling - just the way I like it. That's my favourite kind of weather to walk along the lake shore. It's been drizzling off and on all day. Sabrina might get to wear her new rain coat. She has the black one with the houndstooth lining. (Their text says "herringbone" but that pattern is actually houndstooth.)
The weather has been pleasantly cool all week. Last night we had a potluck farewell/get-together for my manager who is moving to another park. The weather was good - it did cloud up, but didn't rain until into the night. We took Sabby out for a walk much later than we usually do and ran into her boyfriend, the Afghan Hound. He's just one year old and sometimes gets intimidated by her, I think. She just wants to play with him. They walk so nicely together. We invited them back to our place to let the dogs run in the back yard. The Afghan was a little unsure; Sabrina raced around, play-bowed and barked at him - a lot! but he was unsure what she wanted him to do. She'd run around the yard, stop in front of him, play bow, then run off, looking back over her shoulder. When he didn't race after her, she'd stop, try again. We went in the house (damn mosquitoes are back!) and he was reluctant to come in. We stepped outside a few minutes later and he began racing around the yard like a fool. As soon as Sabby came out to run with him, he'd stop. She was so disappointed. We'll keep trying - he and his owner should be here for another month or so and hopefully he'll play with her.
So I had an appointment Thursday night to get my hair coloured. I didn't ask for a cut as I thought I might let it get a little longer and see what happens, much like I did last summer and ended up with this mess. However, I am questioning that decision - I like my hair short; then seeing that Ande shaved her head and then Wendy did the same ... I'm not sure.
Anyway, the colour - it was quite blonde (lots of highlights) the last time I had it done. That was fun, for summer. But I wanted to get back to my natural darker colour. My (natural) colour is a mousy light brown, but when the sun hits it, it looks auburn. I had stayed away from colouring my hair for a long time because there were a few incidents where it turned orange due to the colourist's underestimating how much red it pulls. My current hair person does a fantastic job - if I go with light blonde highlights, they're light blonde, not orange or yellow. But I digress. I decided to go with quite a dark brown and just a few highlights in the front. And no cut. It looked good in the shop, but yesterday when I was getting ready for work, I glanced in the mirror and saw a lot of ... red!!! I don't know if I dislike it, it's just not quite what I had envisioned.
Sabrina is too lazy to look pretty to help dress up the photos, so we did it her way:
Excuse the lack of makeup - it's Day One of a three day weekend. I have no serious intentions of doing anything other than the most basic and necessary chores around the house, laundry, reading, dvd watching and of course knitting. I took some Lorna's Laces out of stash to start a pirates toque. Charcoal background and rainbow coloured skulls!
