Attn blog readers - this blog is messed up!

December 17th, 2006

June 20, 2008: It’s official - I’ve moved my blog over to terriknits.wordpress.com and it’s gonna stay there. I’m not going to expend any more energy or angst on trying to figure out what when wrong with the blog here. So please update your bookmarks/links to reflect the move. Oh, and if you wanted to see the rest of the June entries, you can click here.

Another post to see if I can put up a photo:

Back to normal blogging?

one can hope!

So we have had some crazy snowstorms and got another ton of snow. I’ve been doing a lot of skiing, for which I paid on the weekend with lots of aches and pains. I went ice-skating yesterday after work, and today we were out skiing again. Some of the trails have been packed and tracked, but it’s almost too warm now. The temp was hovering around freezing at 4 p.m. and the snow was really soft and clumpy - sort of like icing sugar. We did my new favourite trail. It’s about 8 km, and we always run out of daylight, so we take our Petzl headlamps and ski right along through the dark. It’s awesome.

As mentioned above, we’ve had a ton of snow on Friday and Saturday. This was Sunday afternoon out for a walk. Sabrina doesn’t seem convinced that the big fella’s fur hat is fashionable. ‘Coz she’s all about the fashion, that one.

I have been working on some socks, and who knows, I might even post a knitting photo or two tomorrow!!

almost knitting content

still no knit photos; one sock is almost to the toe shaping, the other one is just past the gusset decreases. It was the big fella’s birthday today, but I didn’t have the socks done in time. Maybe Christmas. One pair. Heh.

We went skiing again yesterday after work and it was simply glorious. The snow was sparkling white in the late afternoon light; the treetops turned golden as the sun went down. My first round that I didn’t wipe out at some point.

Tonight when Sabrina and I were out for our walk after supper, we heard some wolves again. We were quite far from the house and they sounded like they were just behind the next snowbank, even though I know they were a safe, long distance away - certainly on the outskirts of town at least. Sabrina turned into a statue then as I coaxed her along, we raced back to the house. She didn’t believe me when I said they wouldn’t bother with her bag’o'bones carcass. They wanted something with a bit more meat on it. We heard another volley of howls before we got safely home. I put her in the house and stood out behind our place near the woods. I listened for a while, but didn’t hear them again. That’s so awesome!

WordPress questions: if anyone can help, please let me know! I have downloaded a bunch of cool new themes to use instead of this (lovely but plain) generic one. I have followed all the instructions, have ftp’d them to the appropriate folder on my web server, but when I go to try to use them, I get two messages on my admin control panel: “file not readable” and “stylesheet is missing”. I’ve googled and searched and can’t find a definitive answer as to why it won’t work. Bummer.

I still don’t get it

December 22nd, 2006

I’ve tried a gazillion things to make the goddamned “themes” work in WordPress. I have deleted the previously uploaded themes, changed permissions and re-ftp’d them to the appropriate directory. I have made sure there isn’t a second folder nested in the theme folder (and thanks Wendy for that suggestion). I have gone onto my siteadmin for my web server and examined permissions and made sure the uploaded themes observe the same permissions as the classic/default ones that come with WP and that work. Fuckers. I give up. I like blue, so I’ll be content with the current theme. Actually, I just discovered I can change the header colours, so that will make me content!

Oh yeah - off work for Xmas break - woo hoo! We went out for a great ski after work and then had chunky mushroom spaghetti for supper. Took the princess out for a nice long walk after that - but heard no wolves. We did see a ton of wolf tracks on the ski trail - in an area where we almost always encounter deer and elk when skiing. I’m sure that’s where the wolfies were last night; the tracks weren’t there on Wednesday when we skied.
