The original photo is being held hostage by NBCi, and I lost my backup copy ...

Garter Stitch Shawl Pattern

size 6 mm (US 10) needles (I used a circular for the extra length)

Worsted weight yarn (Red Heart Supersaver in "Painted Desert") I used about 3.5 135 g skeins.

Cast on 2 stitches.

Row 1: K into front and back of first stitch; K1.

Row 2 & all even rows: knit across

Row 3: K into front and back of first st; K1, Knit into front and back of last st.

Row 5: K into front and back of first st; K3, Knit into front and back of last st.

Row 7: K1, K into front and back of next st; K to last 2 st; K into front and back of next st; K1

Row 8: K across

Repeat Row 7 & 8 until shawl is wide enough. End after a Row 8. (I increased to 229 stitches.)

Cast off. At last cast off stitch, do not pull through and fasten off; instead use this as your first chain for the crocheted edging.

Edging: Do the edging of your choice or:

G hook

Make one round in single crochet on edges of shawl. Do 3 sc in corner spaces.

To make the lacy edging, [ch 4, skip next 2 sc; sc in 3rd sc]. Repeat all around. When you get to where you started, slip your last stitch through the first sc of the round, then fasten off.
