4.5 mm (US#7) needles
Bernat Handicrafter cotton yarn (in keeping with the St. Patrick's Day theme, I used Emerald Green)
Cast on 38 stitches
(this is a multiple of 8 stitches, and a border of 3+3 garter stitch, so you could adjust the size accordingly)
Work 4 rows in garter stitch
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row)
Keeping the first three and last three stitches of every row in garter stitch, begin the pattern:
Row 1: [P1, K7] across
Row 2: P6; [K1, P7] across to last 2 st, K1, P1
Row 3: [P1, K1, P1, K5] to end
Row 4: P4; [K1, P1, K1, P5] across to last 4 st, [K1, P1] twice
Row 5: *[P1, K1] twice, P1, K3; repeat from * to end
Row 6: P2; *[k1, P1] twice, K1, P3; repeat from * to last 6 st, [K1 P1] three times
Row 7: *[P1, K1]; repeat from * to end
Row 8: as Row 6
Row 9: as Row 5
Row 10: as Row 4
Row 11: as Row 3
Row 12: as Row 2
Repeat these 12 rows. I did four repeats, then finished off as follows:
Repeat Row 1 to complete the last triangle. Then purl one row (wrong side) and knit one row. Then do three rows garter stitch and bind off.
This made a cloth about 9.5 inches square.
